The Dream of the Blue Roses

The pink roses are the real colour of a kind of rose that is grown around Ottawa on public land. The blue ones, are obviously my own confabulation. As much as the rose flowers, I was drawn to the interesting thorns on the stems. I wanted this piece to have a gentle archway.

orange stems

I just loved the orange stems shooting out of the old stump, and the contrast in colour between the two. The orange is so vibrant and I loved that this was the natural colour. I assume from the size of the stem that this would eventually become a tree, but maybe it’s a bush? I like not knowing.
